JUNGLE TREKS

As well as our popular packages, we can arrange jungle treks ranging in length from 1 to 20 days.  These treks do not include transport to and from Bukit Lawang or accommodation in the village.  Examples of treks are shown below, but we can tailor treks to suit your requirements - please contact us for more information.

Practice Trek (3 hours)

We advise you to choose this trek if you have never been in the jungle, or if you only have a short time to stay in Bukit Lawang.

Itinerary:

Start-time: after breakfast. A short walk into the jungle with an introduction to the jungle and its vegetation. Learn about medical plants and their uses. See orangutans (with a little luck) and other animals. Return to Bukit Lawang by lunchtime.   You can choose either to walk back to Bukit Lawang or travel back by tube-rafting down the river (this must be decided before your trek begins, there is an additional charge of €10 per person for return by rafting).

1 Day Trek in Bukit Lawang

Itinerary:

Trek starts after breakfast between 8 to 9 a.m.  Walk for around 5 – 6 hours into the jungle looking for orangutans, discovering medicinal plants and learning about their uses. Around noon there is a short break for lunch in the jungle, with the rest of the trek continuing after lunch. You can choose either to walk back to Bukit Lawang or to
travel back by tube-rafting down the river (this must be decided before your trek begins, there is an additional charge of €10 per person for return by rafting).

2 Day Trek in Bukit Lawang

Option 1

Itinerary:

 

Day One

Start trek around 8-9 am (after breakfast). Walk for around 6-7 hours into the jungle looking for orangutans, discovering medicinal plants and “jungle-food” and learning about their uses. Relax at the camp and take a shower in a small stream. Preparation of dinner.

 

Day  Two
Have breakfast at the campsite and set off at around 9am, walk for around 4 hours into the jungle looking for orangutans  and other animals.  The rest of the trek continues after lunch. Walk back to Bukit Lawang.

Day Two
Spend the day just relaxing in the jungle with no walking.  After breakfastyou can go to the waterfall and take a shower and then return to the camp and enjoy a leisurely lunch.  After lunch return to Bukit Lawang by tube rafting down the river.

3 Day Trek in Bukit Lawang

Take a rest at the camp, get a hot drink and take a refreshing shower in the small stream.  Preparation of dinner.

Have breakfast at the campsite and set off at around 9am.  Walk for around 5-6 hours, move to another camp site, while searching signs of  wildlife, discovering “jungle-food” and learning about their uses.  Get lunch in the jungle, before continuing trek to the camp near the river bank.  Relax at the camp and swim in the clean jungle river.  Preparation of dinner.

 

Day Three
The following morning visitors can choose between a short trek into to the jungle, or just relaxing at the campsite.  Return to Bukit Lawang either by foot or by tube-rafting down the river (this must be decided before your trek begins, there is an additional charge of €10 per person for return by rafting).  Arrive back at lunchtime (lunch not included on this day).

Walk for around 5-6 hours, half jungle and half river walking this day.  Move to another camp site, looking for the wildlife, discovering medicinal plants and “jungle-food” and learning about their uses. Get lunch in the jungle before continuing to the camp near the river bank. Relax at the camp and take a shower in a small clean jungle river.  Preparation of dinner.

Day three
Have breakfast at the campsite and set off at around 9am
. Walk along the river for 5-6 hours, searching for wild orangutans and other animals, collecting jungle-vegetables for dinner.  Relax at the camp and take a shower in the clean jungle river.  At around 6 p.m. watch animals in the salt lake, where they come to drink to get iron from the stone.  Preparation of dinner.

 

Day four
Have breakfast at the campsite and set off at around 9am
.  Walk for around 4 hours, move to another camp site, looking for the wildlife, discovering medicinal plants and “jungle-food” and learning about their uses. Get lunch in the jungle before continuing to the camp near the river bank. Relax at the camp and take a shower in clean jungle river.  Preparation of dinner.

 

Day five

6 Day Trek in Bukit Lawang

Itinerary:

 

Day one
After breakfast depart for the six-day trek. Walk for around 6-7 hours into the jungle looking for orangutans and other wildlife. Around noon lunch break, before walk continues through to the camp site. Take a rest at the camp, get a hot drink, tea or coffee, after taking a shower in the small stream. Preparation of dinner.

 

Day two
Have breakfast at the campsite and set off at around 9am
.  Walk for around 5-6 hours to the next camp site, searching for orangutans and other wildlife. Discover medicinal plants and jungle-food and learn about their uses and preparation.  Take a rest at the camp and a swim in the stream or walk a little further to swim under a nearby waterfall and get a hot drink.  Preparation of dinner.

 

Day three
Have breakfast at the campsite and set off at around 9am
. Walk for around 5-6 hours, half jungle and half river walking, while searching for signs of wild orangutan nests and other wildlife tracks.  Learn how to make the jungle-camp and how to prepare a jungle-dinner.

Day four
Have breakfast at the campsite and set off at around 9am
. Trek for 5-6 hours along the river searching for wild orangutans and other animals, collecting jungle-vegetables for dinner. Around 6 p.m watch animals in the salt lake, where they come to drink to get iron from the stone. Preparation of dinner.

 

Day five
Have breakfast at the campsite and set off at around 9am for a trek to the next campsite.
 Walk around 4 hours in the jungle, searching for wild orangutans and other animals. Take a rest at the camp or choose to walk a little further to elephant territory to hopefully see wild elephants and collect jungle vegetables.  Get a hot drink and then take a swim in the clean jungle river. Preparation of dinner.

 

Day six
After a relaxing morning at the campsite by the river, enjoying breakfast at around 9am, return to Bukit Lawang either by foot or by tube-rafting down the river (this must be decided before your trek begins, there is an additional charge of €10 per person for return by rafting).  Arrive back at lunchtime (lunch not included on this day).

Around noon lunch break, before the walk continues through to the camp. Take a rest at the camp, get a hot drink (tea or coffee) after taking shower in the small stream. Preparation of dinner.

 

Day two
Have breakfast at the campsite and set off at around 9am
. Walk for around 5-6 hours to the next camp, searching for wild orangutans and other wildlife. Discover medicinal plants and jungle-food, learning about their uses and preparation.  Take a rest at the camp and a swim in the river or walk a little further to swim under a nearby waterfall and get hot drink. Preparation of dinner.

 

Day three
Have breakfast at the campsite and set off at around 9am
. Walk for around 5-6 hours, half river walking and half jungle walking, to the next camp while searching for signs of wild orangutan nests and other wildlife tracks.

 

Day four
Have breakfast at the campsite and set off at around 9am
. Walk for around 5-6 hours along the river to the next camp while searching for signs of wild orangutan nests and other wildlife tracks. Collect jungle-vegetables for dinner.
Stop to observe animals at the salt lake.  If you want, you can learn how to make the jungle-camp and how to prepare a jungle-dinner.

 

Day five
Have breakfast at the campsite and set off at around 9am
. The camp will not move this day.  Free day to spend relaxing at the campsite, or choose to walk around with the guides looking for more wildlife, learn to fish like the locals in the river, or collect jungle-vegetables for dinner.  At around 6p.m. watch the animals in the salt lake, where they come to drink to get iron from the stone. Preparation of dinner.

Day six
Have breakfast at the campsite and set off at around 9am for a trek to the next campsite. Walk for around 4 hours in the jungle, searching for wild orangutans and other animals. Take a rest at the camp or choose to walk a little further to elephant territory to hopefully see wild elephants and collect jungle vegetables.  Get a hot drink and then take a swim in the clean jungle river. Preparation of dinner.

 

Day seven
